ABOUT US

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Karatu Library Foundation (KLF) was established in 2006 as a community educational and support organization with the goal of providing for sustainable library, literacy and information resource development in the Yola area of Adamawa State in Nigeria. KLF has been operating in Yola for the past years and has provided many children and adults in the area with free reading resources and literacy lessons. We need assistance in various areas in order to be able to further fulfill our goals and to expand so we can serve more members of the community.

KLF is overseen by a Board of Directors which includes the following members:

Co-founder: Efada Udoh

Co-founder: Martha A. Speirs

Secretary: Benson T. Ali

OUR VISION

Our vision is to build a thriving and inclusive community where access to books, education, information and digital learning resources is available to everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances.

KLF Yola aims to become a trusted center for learning, reading, research and personal development. We envision a future where children, students, researchers, educators and members of the wider community can easily access the knowledge and resources they need to improve their lives and contribute positively to society.

Our Vision is to make Karatu a welcoming and accessible hub of knowledge that connects people with the information they need to learn, grow, innovate and build a brighter future for Yola and beyond

OUR GOAL

KLF primary goal is to provide support for library and literacy services in Yola, Nigeria and the surrounding areas. The encouragement of a reading culture and the growth of literacy in this area of Adamawa State are critical parts of the mission of the project.

By establishing this non-governmental organization we hope to provide for sustainable library and information development in the Yola area. We would like to see the community benefit from the knowledge and opportunities that free access to information can bring to them. We feel that the Karatu Library Foundation has the potential to help strengthen educational goals by providing information for further growth and consequently spreading  knowledge within the community.

The work of KLF takes place in and around Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. The core group working on the project now consists of Staff members, Volunteers, Friends of KLF, and a competent Board. This variety of supporters make up a strong group who understand the challenges of developing a sustainable project of this sort in Nigeria.
